Building Resilience: Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction Projects
In a world increasingly affected by climate change and natural disasters, our focus on Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction has never been more critical. At Worldwide Nature Conservation Nepal (WWN), we are dedicated to enhancing resilience and mitigating risks through a series of impactful projects.
Capturing Success Stories for Community Resilience
From December 2019 to February 2020, supported by the GGR emergency fund and FPAN, we documented the success stories of the “Scaling up Family Planning and Reproductive Health Service in Nepal” project. This initiative highlighted how adaptive measures within communities can enhance resilience to climate impacts and improve overall well-being.
Conservation and Livelihoods: A Dual Approach
Between December 2020 and June 2021, in Shey-Phoksundo Rural Municipality, Dolpa, we assessed the conservation status, challenges, and opportunities of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs). By focusing on sustainable resource management, we aimed to boost community resilience and livelihood opportunities, ensuring that local populations are better prepared for climate-related challenges.
Empowering Communities Through Operational Planning
In Syangja District, from September 2020 to May 2021, we collaborated with the Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal to prepare and revise operational plans for community forestry user groups. This project involved GIS mapping, biodiversity assessment, and documentation, all crucial for supporting community-led disaster risk reduction and adaptive strategies.
Strengthening Homestay Communities
Our commitment to building community resilience continued with training for over 15 homestay communities in Nechasalayan Rural Municipality, Solukhumbu, from March to June 2022. By providing capacity development training on homestay management, we equipped these communities with the skills needed to adapt to climate change impacts and promote sustainable tourism.
Strategic Planning for Eco-Tourism
In Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality, Myagdi, we prepared an Eco-Tourism Master Plan from February to June 2021. This project explored and documented tourism possibilities and livelihoods, supporting sustainable development and climate adaptation in the region.
Promoting Eco-Tourism for Sustainable Development
Our feasibility study on eco-tourism promotion, conducted from January to December 2020 with support from the Taragaon Development Board, assessed the potential for eco-tourism to enhance sustainable livelihoods and reduce disaster vulnerability.
Assessing Forest Products and Hydropower Impacts
From October 2021 to June 2022, in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality, we assessed the status of forest products and the impacts of hydropower on social, economic, and environmental aspects. This comprehensive assessment aimed to enhance community preparedness and resilience against climate and disaster risks.
